Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival To Be Simulcast Sept. 20-21 From Dallas

Eric Clapton brings the fifth installment of his Crossroads Guitar Festival to American Airlines Center in Dallas on Sept. 20-21, and this year it comes with a twist for fans unable to get to the Big D — it’s being simulcast to venues from bars to performing arts centers across North America.

Thanks to a partnership with Joe Hand Promotions in association with RRE, LLC, the simulcast will air live with performances available at 8 p.m. CT Friday Sept. 20, and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. There’s still time for venue owners, promoters and bar owners and operators to arrange to carry the simulcast by calling Joe Hand Promotions at 1-800–557-4263 or visiting JoeHandPromotions.com.

Participating locations will be included on Joe Hand Promotions’ Bar Finder search on the company’s website. To find a participating bar or restaurant showing Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, visit the company’s website here.

“The highly-anticipated Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival brings together many of the world’s top musicians for two fantastic nights of live music,” said Joe Hand, Jr., President, Joe Hand Promotions. “Music fans from across North America can experience the sights and sounds of the Crossroads Festival with their friends and other music fans at their favorite dining establishment or live music venue. We’re excited to work with RRE in bringing the live simulcast to millions of music fans across the country.”

Bonnie Raitt: “One person on a guitar or slide guitar is such a mournful lonely sound, like a human voice, that can express so many different emotions from longing to sexual heat to aching and betrayal,” Raitt said in a recent telephone interview. “The guitar is a very expressive instrument in general and there was something about the starkness and soulfulness and the dark night of the soul.”
Raitt, whose father was actor and Broadway star John Raitt, said she would listen to blues albums that her brother would bring home from college, along with Mississippi John Hurt and Mississippi Fred McDowell. In a twist of fate, she ended up traveling with McDowell early in her career.

“He had a style of Delta blues guitar and slide playing and there was something about his soulfulness and the rhythm that he played and his touch on the guitar just really got me,” she said.

“It wasn’t all about your looks or having a hit single back in the late ’70s when I started otherwise I would have never gotten a shot at it because I had no interest in being a big pop mainstream star,” Raitt said. “I just played guitar and wanted to play in folk music clubs and have a small modest following.”
