LOS ANGELES — Grammy-winning singer Bonnie Raitt was enshrined Friday on the Hollywood RockWalk, along with surf musician Dick Dale and bluesman Buddy Guy in a ceremony that paid tribute to great guitarists.
Raitt, Dale and Guy left their handprints and signatures in cement, and Jimmie Vaughan unveiled a commorative plaque in honor of his brother, the late blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan. A bronze bust of Vaughan will be placed on RockWalk’s posthumous honoree wall near likenesses of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Rick Nelson, among others.
Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore also had been scheduled to be honored Friday but was unable to attend because of a schedule conflict, so his installation will be rescheduled.
Raitt, winner of eight Grammy Awards, accepted a $10,000 check from Fender Guitar and Point Blank/Virgin Records for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, earmarked for its music education programs. RockWalk also made a $5,000 contribution to the organization on behalf of the honorees, who played on the ‘Fender 50th Anniversary Guitar Legends’ CD being released Oct. 1 by Point Blank/Virgin.

Raitt, daughter of Broadway musical star John Raitt, got her start in the early ’70s playing folk and blues in clubs in the northeast. She found a broad audience with her 1989 album, ‘Nick of Time,’ which brought her four Grammys that year.
Dale, leader of Dick Dale and the Del-Tones, was an innovator in surf guitar in the late ’50s and had modest chart success in the early ’60s with ‘Let’s Go Trippin” and ‘The Scavenger.’ His career received a boost two years ago when his original recording of ‘Misirlou’ was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s hit movie ‘Pulp Fiction.’ Dale’s latest album is ‘Calling Up Spirits’ and the video of its first single, ‘The Wedge Paradiso,’ currently is playing on MTV.
Guy won Grammys for best contemporary blues album in 1991 for his comeback CD, ‘Damn Right I’ve Got the Blues,’ and again in 1993 for ‘Feels Like Rain.’ He also holds Billboard magazine’s prestigious Century Award, the publication’s highest career achievement honor. Guy’s latest release is ‘Live! The Real Deal,’ recorded with the horn section of G.E. Smith’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ Band.

'A Tribute To Mose Allison'
Celebrates The Music Of An Exciting Jazz Master
Raitt contributed to a new album, If You're Going To The City: A Tribute To Mose Allison, which celebrates the late singer and pianist, who famously blended the rough-edged blues of the Mississippi Delta with the 1950s jazz of New York City.
NPR's Lulu Garcia-Navarro talks to Bonnie Raitt about her friendship with the Mose Allison. They're also joined by Amy Allison — his daughter, who executive produced the album — about selecting an unexpected list of artists to contribute songs to the album.
